AMMS Sydney Middle East 1939-1945 Theme Build 2006
True Grit?
Following on from the success of the KV Theme, we decided to settle on a campaign theme rather than a vehicle for the September 2006 meeting and Quarterly Competition.
This will allow the full gamut of armour, softskins, aircraft, figures and yes, SHIPS!
Also, we made it Middle East rather than just North Africa, so we can take in Crete, Syria (some nice and unusal potential Australian subjects here - have a look at Paul Handel's Anzac Steel articles Australian Armour on Cyprus, May to August 1941 and Australian Armour in the Middle East, 1940-1942 to see what I mean), and of course the convoy and naval actions in the Med. So, a wide range of potential subjects within the time and place to choose from!!
Which gives us the following rules of engagement:
- All participants to model a subject which served in the Middle East in the 1939-45 period. Any subject goes - air/land/sea, figures/vehicles/aircraft or ships, so long as it is shown serving in the time and place.
- Each kit to be finished OOB or enhanced as the participant wishes.
- Any scale, any kit. The "real modellers'" scale of 1:72, and the "new" modellers' scale of 1:48, are not overlooked. Hmmmm, might be a chance to try out one of the new 1:48 armour offerings - everyone says they're quick to build!
- All models to be completed for the September 2006 competition, and submitted for judging under the relevant catagory (OOB, Enhanced etc). Naturally, this does not preclude anything outside of the theme from being entered into the quarterly comp as normal.
- It'd be great for everyone to bring along their in-progress work to each meeting.
- Again, the aim is to HAVE FUN, and try to recapture that old thrill of actually starting and finishing something in less than a year!!!!!
So, thinking caps on, and hop into it!
