This series of images was taken in October 1997 at the Wehrtechnische Studiensammlung (WTS) Museum in Koblenz, Germany.
This museum should be a “must visit” in any trip to Germany.
The particular vehicle features the rather unusual conical “caps” on the end of the recuperator and recoil assemblies, and has appeared in a number of publications.
You can imagine my surprise (and delight) when I found the Wespe literally in pieces – undergoing a very thorough overhaul, a hallmark of the WTS approach to its collection.
This afforded views of the major structural assemblies of the vehicles which I have not seen published elsewhere.
In its unassembled condition, I guess it represented the ultimate for a modeller – a 1:1 scale model just waiting to be built!
