According to the accompanying plaque, the Type 69 was a further development of the Type 59 and was produced in the 1970’s. It is also stated that the Type 69 is the first indigenous Chinese tank design. Continue reading

According to the accompanying plaque, the Type 63 Tracked APC was a product of the 1960’s and equipped the mechanised infantry components of armoured units. Exported to parts of Asia and Africa, it was superceded by the Type 85 and ceased production in 1985. Continue reading

PLA Type 63 Light Amphibious Tank

According to the accompanying plaque, the Type 63 Light Amphibious Tank entered service in 1963 and was designed to operate in inland waterways, lakes and rice fields. It was used in the 1979 border clash between China and Vietnam. Continue reading

PLA Type 85 Tracked Armoured Personnel Carrier

This series of images was taken in June 2006 at the Tank Museum of the People’s Liberation Army, Chang Ping County, Peoples Republic of China.

According to the accompanying plaque, the Type 85 Tracked APC (1984) is the basis for the development of a family of over 10 variants. The Type 85 supercedes the Type 63 APC.

  • Main Armament: 1 X 12.7mm AA MG.
  • Maximum Road Speed: 65kph.

Centurion Mark 5/1 ARN 169017 (Vietnam Modifications) – Part 2

This series of images was taken in 1998 at Holsworthy Army Base, Sydney Australia.

Centurion 169017 has an interesting history and is one of perhaps only two vehicles surviving with South Vietnam modifications in place. Subsequent to these images being taken, 169017 was relocated north to 1 Brigade in Darwin where it remains on duty as a gate guardian. Continue reading
